✭✭✭✭✭ - Author D R Shores has crafted a deeply dramatic novel that weaves an intricate narrative around the complex dynamics of competition, collaboration, morality, and love. Wynter's character is brilliantly portrayed as she navigates the cutthroat world of high-stakes business. Her resilience and experience are put to the test as she confronts not only professional challenges but also her own personal dilemmas, and there is so much dedication to a close narrative style that we see every emotional reaction and attitude shift along the way. The story is skillfully crafted and keeps a great pace, with a tightly interwoven plot that keeps readers engaged throughout, as we never know where the next moment of combat or cooperation is coming from. It's a thought-provoking exploration of the human condition within the high-pressure realm of corporate power struggles, realistically achieved but with suitably high drama for the genre. Overall, Shallow Stock offers a unique blend of business drama, moral dilemmas, and character development, making it a must-read for fans of compelling literary fiction. - KC Finn for Readers' Favorite
✭✭✭✭✭ - Shallow Stock deftly accentuates the often cutthroat world of the boardroom along with the intriguing inner machinations of family-run companies. An exceptional novel that dives into the blood sport that is big business while also examining the men and women who pull the strings behind the scenes, this book is part Succession, part Barbarians at the Gate, and overall a winning read. - Philip Zozzaro for Portland Book Review
I found the narrative fascinating and it kept me engaged throughout. Filled with high-stakes, secrets and underhand deals, this is an entertaining and dramatic story. - LoveReading.co.uk
This book was entertaining from cover to cover as storylines overlapped only to neatly meet in the end. I especially loved the character development that author D.R. Shores took the time to nurture throughout the story. Although the story has many different angles, it is easy to follow and understand how everything connects. With themes of intergenerational transfer of power, media manipulation, corporate corruption and scandal, and moral compromise, readers who enjoy the shows Succession and Billions will love Shallow Stock - Kristi Elizabeth for Seattle Book Review
✭✭✭✭✭ - Deep-seated rivalries push two individuals to the limits of the acceptable in a bid to get the upper hand in D.R. Shores' Shallow Stock. The business setting for the story is probably the best possible one to accurately portray the effects of the 'old boys' club' network in action when it comes to settling scores. Shores’ characters are impressively put together as their origin stories come out in a gradually played-out style that hooks the reader from the start. Well-placed flashbacks highlight the tension between Wynter and Julian, creating an unusual subplot. This makes it easier for the reader to appreciate the viewpoints of the principal characters in this story. The conversations between the characters are intentionally indirect which heightens the intrigue. The best part of this novel is the manner in which Shores crafts a story where everyone is simultaneously a hero and a villain carrying some form of emotional baggage. Shallow Stock is suspenseful storytelling at its finest. - Essien Asian for Readers' Favorite
